I agree with this thought. Everybody wants to be happy (everyone in his own way), be loved and love, to travel all over the world. We want to get close to our dreams. As close as we can... I always begin with travelling, leaving other two points to the destiny :)
This time it was Scotland, UK...
You will say you are already in the UK, what is the point to make a big deal of it. But it is.Even though they are in one kingdom, there are a lot of differences. You really feel abroad :) Top 5 differences tourists can mention from the first walking tour in Edinburgh:
1) Accent
2) Different money
3) No red buses
4) Weather (it is colder and more rainy, couldn't imagine it is possible)
5) Men in kilts
First of all, thanks to my friends, who invited me to this trip, otherwise I have no idea who I would visit Scotland with. They are a very good company to travel and have fun with. We spent 3 interesting days in Scotland. Stayed in Edinburgh and traveled to Glasgow.
Secondly, I loved Edinburgh. It is a lovely historical city with beautiful nature and welcoming people. If you want to have a vacation, feel yourself as a wandering tourist in an old city, then it is the place you are looking for. The first day was all about getting to know the city, we were walking around, absorbing everything we saw and enjoying this unique country. The city centre, i.e Old City is full of old buildings with own stories to be told about, men playing bagpipes, wearing traditional dresses of Scotland, souvenir shops, where you can find anything in tartan, pubs serving scottish food etc.
loooove babiess... this cute little girl was very kind to approach us in a park :) |
My friend Seva recorded a little performance of Pipers Orchestra in the centre of Edinburg:
National Gallery of Scotland was interesting, especially the impressionism gallery, that we adored.
But I have had an obsession for last weeks, that I need to see the sea. And I made my friends to go to the seaside, only to look at the horison that I've missed. We walked a lot to get there, and when I say A LOT I mean it :) We were ready to give up when we saw it. So there was no way back. Enjoyed this cold North Sea in a creepy way, walking along the Portobello Beach in a freezing cold weather for June, we are not used to.
Visited Edinburgh Castle, which is situated on a high hill in the middle of the city. I have to say, that the view from the castle is amazing, you can see many miles away, even the sea.
We left for Glasgow. Wandered there for a couple of hours, but it didn't seem that interesting to us. It is a place to go for shopping in Scotland, that what came into our minds when we saw the city. Lots of different shops...
And there's no trip to Scotland without whiskey tasting, which I am not a fan of. At all. Even if there is a Whiskey Muesum where they actually teach you stuff about this drink and you taste it and still don't like it... no comment)))
Of course, couldn't leave without souvenirs:
